Turbo Trac’s patented Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT) allows customer prime movers (electric motor, internal combustion engines, wind turbines, steam turbines, etc) to operate at a fixed, efficient speed and still have speed control on the process application. This is accomplished through the use of traction technology to transfer power from the prime mover to the process. A cone with an infinite number of diameters and a disc that is adjusted relative to the cone provide the infinite variation in output speed. High torque situations are managed through the use of a split power path. This allows a percentage of the required power to be transferred directly to the process through gearing and the remainder is managed through the variator section which controls speed regulation. This design allows for scaling up to high torque transfer rates. It also allows for options to regulate speed ratios to the system requirements from fractional speed changes up to full speed range regulation. The IVT can be geared as a speed reducing, speed multiplier, or as a one to one ratio to allow for speed regulation only.
